This Sword +1 is both respected and feared in many circles, not for its strength, but for its abilities. Soul Reaver (on a critical hit) Takes a bit of the victims soul ( a 1 level loss, permanent i.e. no restorations) Once it has done this 20 times, it gets another +1. It an spend these +1's in the form of a soulblast
Soulblast-

This is in essence the firing of a soul at another soul. This attack gets no save, and the victim only gets his AC modified by DEX and magical bonuses for it. The character initiating the soul blast, gets the THACO of a thief (wizards use thier own THACO) of the same level. This attack literally crams 2 souls into one body. The result is sometimes death (10%), but more often than not (90%), the body splits into 2 seperate people!
In essence, the main alignment of all the "patchwork" soul is what ever is the most often seen alignment in the caught pieces of souls (first check for lawfullness, then good/evil) Often, this body has multiple personality disorder, due to all the souls fighting for control.
If it is the same alignment as the original, then the 2 bodies suffer the same effects as a clone spell. If of a different alignment, then the other body looks obliviously different and neither suffer the effects of the clone spell. If of the same lawfullness or goodness, the two will often fight side by side (each is treated as half as much hit die as usual for at least 6 months while they regenerate). If of opposing alignments, then they will either flee from the scene, or fight to the death. more often than not, after this attack the two will run away in opposite directions.
This has no effect on ghosts, or things without souls (pretty much all undead). Also, magic resistance doesn't apply to a soul blast, because its not truly magic. Magical bonuses to AC apply because these are designed to defend against any and all attacks.
Also, the soul reaver can use one of these +1's for other purposes, as determined by the DM. (common uses include- a replacement for the wielder when targeted by a trap the soul spell, or a lich/demi-lich or one can be used to take the wielders place in the ranks of the dead so that the wielders soul can come back to the body for a free raise dead spell)
Finally should the soul reaver's power get higher than +5 it explodes as if it were a retributive strike (from a staff of the magi) with each +1 couting as 5 charges.
If the sword ever loses charges to the point where it goes below +1, then it captures the users soul to keep itself alive. Mind you the wielder never knows how many +1 charges are on the soul reaver, so
